As the sun started to set over Wyndham, the crew greeted the guests as they arrived with grins from ear to ear, coupled with nervous anticipation for their long-awaited Kimberley Classic Adventure.
The guests oo-ed and arrh-ed as they came on board MV Great Escape and were shown to their cabins. Impressed by the real-time TV, the spacious queen cabins and everyone’s favourite, the foredeck spa. They then settled in to a chilled glass of bubbles as we cruised into the evening.
Throughout the adventure, the waterfalls were running, the pools were crystal clear and the fish were on the bite, and of course the beers were always cold!!
Throughout the 2 weeks the cruise was led by Jezza who has been exploring the coast for many years, so many in fact, we went to a swim hole named after his son!!
It was great to get off the boat each day to do a good walk that allowed us to really experience the rugged Kimberley landscape then be rewarded with a rejuvenating swim at a hidden yet breathtaking waterfall. It felt like we were the only people on earth.
Back on the boat more rewards greeted us when we sat down to the delicious meals, freshly and lovingly prepared by Nick.
There are simply too many amazing moments and memories to recall but a certain highlight was the Mitchell River National Park. Not only the helicopter flight over the Mitchell Falls and surrounding area but also testing my skills against the very elusive Barra and the invogorating swim at the picturesque Surveyors Creek.
It has been a challenge to deal with reality since our return, but the friendships and memories will last forever. Back to my real job…..
