The battle to Save the Kimberley is intensifying as the West Australian government have announced James Price Point as the preferred location of the on-shore gas facility in the Kimberley.
For many of our passengers you will know this area as being south of Cape Leveque and home to a pristine area of white sands, red rocks and prized marine stocks.
Many Broome residents are horrified that this stretch of country will be destroyed. There are many stakeholders that have differing views as to why this should not go ahead….from the environmental impact on our flora and fauna, particularly our huge whale population, to the social impact on the town of Broome itself, to the economic benefits of tourism, not forgetting the impact on country for the local aboriginal communities.
If you have not yet heard about what is happening, check out this short film by Annabelle Sandes and Richard Costin about our precious coast and its inhabitants, the Kimberley whales.
Take action today
This is such a complex issue, with many impacts that we could write forever. Please visit the Save the Kimberley website to find out more and show your support.
Better still, email Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett to petition against this unsustainable and devastating development.
