Fishing WA Film our Barra Bonanzas!

Experience Barramundi Fishing
Fishing-in-the-Kimberley-The-Great-Escape-Charter-Company

The film crew and presenters from Fishing WA, Western Australia’s popular television program dedicated to fishing fanatics around the country, recently joined The Great Escape to film our new 4 night fishing focused cruises, the Barra Bonanza. Two episodes in January and February 2011 will feature The Great Escape and our new Kimberley fishing adventures!

The four Fishing WA crew fished solidly over the four days and pulled in a huge number of fantastic sized Barramundi, as well as Spanish Mackerel, Fingermark, Mangrove Jack and a variety of Pelagic species as well. Skipper for the cruise was Trippy and he led the ambitious punters into his prized “secret spots” that he’s discovered on his many explorations of the region, where the Barra were biting!

The adventure began with a one hour scenic flight from Broome over the Dampier Peninsula to get to One Arm Point where the Fishing WA crew met our crew onboard MV Great Escape. Then just a few hour’s steam and the filmcrew, presenters and our guests were all out fishing for the elusive Barramundi. They went sport fishing at Strickland Bay, the Buccaneer Archipelago where if you’re lucky you can sometimes find a school of tuna, the spectacular Raft Point for bottom fishing and trolling, and the wonderous Montgomerey Reef for Pelagic species, as well as Doubtful Bay and the Sale River.

Grant Lauterbach, Fishing WA’s photographer said, “what a sensational five days. Had an awesome time. The crew could not have done a better job or been more friendly and helpful… and we had no idea how amazing the food was going to be!”

After our capable deck-hands filleted the fresh catches, chef Nick was put to work to whip up a bevvy of amazing fish dishes including his famous Thai fish cakes, fish curry, fresh sashimi, and fantastic fish burgers made from our Brenda’s king sized Spanish Mackerel- big enough to feed the whole boat! Thanks Brenda!

The guests had a fantastic time onboard MV Great Escape as well as at the end of their lines, with big dinners on the back deck each night, and a birthday celebration for our guest Ellis. The guests who enjoyed the first Barra Bonanza for the season on October 14th have already started planning their Barra Bonanza “escape” for next year, recruiting more of their friends to charter the whole boat exclusively- I believe they call it “Men’s Health Week!” What a great idea- I can see it now; fishing, football on the beach, barbeques, live sports on TV- they’ll be living it up and living the dream on that cruise!

Fishing WA will be running a competition on air and in their magazine between January and February where viewers and readers have the chance to win an all expenses paid escape to the Kimberley in 2011 on one of our Barra Bonanza fishing adventures. The prize includes flights, transfers, accommodation in Broome, and a Horizon View Stateroom for two people on a 5 night Barra Bonanza adventure cruise. Watch their program in Jan and Feb or pick up a copy of the Jan or Feb edition of their magazine for a chance to win the big prize next year!
